UAE severs relations with Taliban
United Arab Emirates-Afghanistan, Politics, 9/24/2001

The United Arab Emirates on Saturday severed its diplomatic relations with the ruling Taliban movement in Afghanistan.

The UAE official news agency quoted an official source at the UAE foreign ministry as saying that the UAE had in the few past days exerted intensive efforts with the government of Taliban government to convince it to respond with the request of the UN security council to hand over Usama Bin Laden in order to try him at a just international court concerning accusations addressed to him.

The source added that the government of Taliban has not categorically responded to these efforts made by the UAE which, for its part ( the UAE) finds it not at all possible to continue diplomatic relations with a government refusing to respond to the clear will of the international community, represented by the UN security council and therefore the UAE has severed diplomatic relations with the Taliban government in Afghanistan as from today ( Saturday).
