No proposals on holding OIC FMs' meeting
Egypt-Regional, Politics, 9/22/2001

Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmad Maher said there are no certain proposals on convening a meeting of foreign ministers of the Organisation of Islamic Conference (OIC) countries.

Answering reporters' queries Thursday on the outcome of consultations among Islamic countries to hold an OIC foreign ministers meeting in light of the recent incidents in the United States, Maher said there were contacts but no certain proposals on meeting.

On the purpose behind the recent resolutions adopted by the Security Council and the United Nations (UN) General Assembly following the recent attacks, Maher said the resolution's objective is to allow the UN to be part of the activity, which is most welcome and supported.

The foreign minster said Egypt has accentuated that any move must be in line with international legitimacy and sanctioned by the UN.
