Al-Shara made telephone calls with Maher, al-Faisal and Kharazi

The Syrian foreign minister Farouk al- Shara on Friday made a telephone call with the Egyptian foreign minister Ahmad Maher.

During the telephone call views were exchanged on current developments in the region and the need of finding out a united Arab position towards current developments.

In this context, the two ministers discussed the possibility of convening an emergency conference for the Arab foreign ministers.

View points were identical between the two ministers to meet the invitation provides for convening an emergency meeting for the foreign ministers of the member states of the Islamic conference organization, if such an invitation will be extended so as all Islamic states will have the opportunity to explain their conditions and unite their stances towards the recent attacks.

A similar telephone call was also made between al-Shara and the Iranian foreign minister Kamal Kharazi. Each side reviewed the content of contacts it made with several Arab and European foreign ministers. View points between the two ministers were identical towards condemning terrorism and the attacks launched against the US. Stress was laid, in particular on not linking terrorism to Arabs and Muslims as well as to make a distinction between terrorism and the legitimate right of peoples to struggle against the foreign occupation. A right guaranteed by the UN charter.

Views were also identical towards not attacking civilians and not to be hasty in taking any measures, highlighting the role played by the UN to this end.

On Friday evening a telephone call was made between al-Shara and his Saudi counterpart prince Saud al- Faisal during which discussions dealt with developments in the region and the international conditions, in general.

Consultations were reviewed concerning the meeting of the foreign ministers of the OIC called upon by Iran in light of the recent incidents in the US.
