Sixteen people injured in train derailment in eastern Morocco
Morocco, Local, 9/21/2001
Sixteen people were wounded, including three who sustained serious injuries, on Thursday night when a train derailed in the eastern locality of Khartana, some 55 km to the west of Oujda.
The Casablanca-bound train was transporting 139 passengers. It derailed due to soil subsidence near the Bourdim river which witnessed a rise in its water level.
Strong rainfalls seriously impeded the arrival of rescue teams to the spot.
