Abu al-Ragheb calls on the Jordanians to be united
Jordan-USA, Politics, 9/21/2001

The Jordanian prime minister Ali Abu al-Ragheb has called on the Jordanians to be united and give up differences following the September 11 incidents which targeted the US.

The Jordanian official news agency Petra said that Abu al-Ragheb stressed during his meeting on Wednesday evening with the leaderships of the political parties that the " current as well as coming phase facing Jordan and the region requires a strong and united position built on national security ground and Jordan's stability."

During the meeting Abu al-Ragheb warned against that the Jordanian government will not " be hesitant to take necessary measures to withstand non- constructive extremist acts that will violate Jordan's security and stability."

The Jordanian prime minister also renewed Jordan's position in rejecting these terrorist acts "which are not accepted by our Muslim religion nor Arab tradition." The Jordanian news agency explained that the leaderships of the Jordanian political parties commended for its part " Jordan's official position in rejecting terrorism," stressing the need of working to reach a united Arab position to clarify the real image about Arabs and Muslims." However, the Islamic labor work, which is the main Jordanian opposition organization, considered on Sunday that the aggressions at the US on September 11 are against the Islamic principles, but it held Washington responsible for them because of its conducted official policies.

Moreover, the Muslim brothers groups in Jordan stressed it condemns terrorism and the terrorism attacks against Washington and Tel Aviv and considered that civilians should avoid such acts.

In a statement this group said that the " Islamic movement does not agree the US to retaliate terrorism by counter- terrorism directed against the Arab and Islamic states which denied these operations. The group warned that the final outcome of such counter- terrorism will be a confrontation between America and the Islamic world.
