Morocco expels Algerian national over suspicion of involvement in arms trafficking
Morocco-Algeria, Politics, 9/20/2001

Moroccan security services announced this Thursday the expulsion of Kamer Eddine Kherbane, an Algerian national holder of a British passport who was arrested Tuesday in Casablanca and interrogated for suspected involvement in arms trafficking between Morocco and Algeria.

Kherban, born in Algiers in 1956, was arrested after he visited in a Casablanca prison his brother-in-law, Said Hamza, who is serving a 15-year prison sentence. Said Hamza was found guilty in 1994 of being member of a weapons trafficking web between Algeria and Morocco.

Deeper investigations did not establish with certainty that Kherbane was directly involved in the arms trafficking case, the police said.

The British embassy was notified the case as Kherban entered Morocco with a British passport.
