Gulf foreign ministers to convene extra ordinary meeting
Gulf, Politics, 9/20/2001

The foreign ministers of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states will hold a meeting on Sunday in al-Riyadh at the initiative of Bahrain which currently presides over the higher council of the GCC member states, according to the Saudi daily Okaz.

The paper added that the meeting will concentrate on current developments in light of the attacks launched against the US last week and the international efforts exerted to fighting terrorism.

The paper quoted the secretary general of the GCC Sheikh Jamil al-Hujeilan as saying that the call for the said meeting was preceded by sideline contacts among the GCC member states and therefore it was taken into consideration that there is an interest to convene this meeting in order to coordinate stances towards current developments. He ruled out convening an extraordinary GCC summit.

The GCC, however, condemned the attacks took place against certain targets in New York and Washington.
