Egypt refuses double standards in nuclear issues in ME
Egypt-Regional, Politics, 9/19/2001
Egyptian permanent delegate to UN organizations in Vienna and ambassador to Austria Sameh Shukri said Egypt fully supported the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) efforts in the use of Atomic Energy for peaceful purposes.
In the 45th General Conference of IAEA, Shukri said Egypt has defined clear-cut policies in the nuclear non-proliferation field on the regional & international levels.
Shukri expressed astonishment over the attitude of a number of active countries in nuclear non-proliferation field. They showed laziness in application of monitoring measures.
Egypt refuses the dual standard policies in subjecting some countries to severe monitoring procedures in the atomic energy field whereas others do not cooperate with IAEA monitoring policy, Shukri added.
Chief Egyptian delegate to the conference called on the international community to prove committed to a clear-cut policy in nuclear non-proliferation field.
Just and fair application of agreements should prevail in dealing with all world countries, Shukri concluded.
