Al-Assad discusses with Mubarak, Saudi crown prince regional, international developments, revitalizing Arab solidarity

Tuesday witnessed an intensive political effort made by Syrian President bashar al-Assad.

After he completed his talks with the Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh in Sanaa, President Bashar al- Assad moved to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, where he held talks with the Saudi crown prince Abdullah Bin Abdul Aziz and then headed to Sharm esh Sheikh were he held a round of discussions with President Hosni Mubarak of Egypt.

Talks dealt with latest developments in the region and the course of events at the regional and international levels and the importance of crystallizing a united Arab position concerning these conditions.

President al-Assad arrived in Sharm esh- Sheikh on Tuesday evening coming from Jeddah in a visit to Egypt. He was welcomed at Sharm esh Sheikh airport by President Mubarak, the prime minister Atif Obeid, the defense minister Lt. Gen. Hussein Tantawi, the information minister Safwat al-Sharif, the foreign minister Ahmad Maher and the chairman of the President's divan Zakaraya Azmi.

Upon his arrival in Sharm esh- Sheikh, the President held a close - door meeting with President Mubarak and this was followed by a plenary meeting attended on the Syrian side by the foreign minister Farouk al-Shara and the Egyptian side was attended by Obeid, Lt. Gen. Tantawi, ministers al-Sharif and Maher and Azmi.

The two sides reviewed regional and international developments and the importance of crystallizing an Arab position regarding them.

In Jeddah, President al-Assad and the Saudi crown prince Abdullah held a meeting attended by al-Shara and the Saudi side was attended by the Saudi defense minister Sultan Bin Abdul Aziz, prince Nawaf Bin Abdul Aziz the Minister of the Interior, the foreign minister prince Saud al-Faisal and the chairman of the strategic studies center Mamdouh Abdul Aziz.

Talks dealt with latest developments in the region and the importance of revitalizing Arab solidarity.

The Syrian and the Saudi sides stressed Arabs and Muslims rejection of terrorism.

Then, the Saudi King Fahd Bin Abdul Aziz held a lunch banquet in honor of President al-Assad and his companies.

After the conclusion of the talks, President al-Assad was officially seen off at Jeddah airport by the Saudi crown prince and high ranking Saudi officials.

Earlier in the day at 4 p.m. President al-Assad arrived in Jeddah from Sanaa in a short visit to Saudi Arabia.

Earlier President Bashar al-Assad and the Yemeni President held a meeting at the presidential palace in Sanaa during which they completed their talks they had started on Monday. The meeting was attended by al-Shara and high ranking Yemeni officials.

On Tuesday morning President al-Assad received at his residence in Sanaa, the Yemeni foreign minister Abdul Qader bajmal. The two sides reviewed bilateral relations and the agreements signed during the meetings of the Syrian- Yemeni joint higher committee.

The President also at his residence in Sanaa received the Yemeni deputy speaker of parliament Abdul Wahab Mahmoud and discussions dealt with means of strengthening relations between the two countries and people so as to strengthen Arab solidarity.

President al-Assad also received at his residence a delegation representing the Syrian community in Yemen. The President learnt about conditions of the Syrian community and their activities.

Al-Assad talked to members of the delegation about the laws and decrees issues in Syria in the context of the current march of modernization and development.

On Tuesday night, the President returned back to Damascus following a successful official visit to Yemen and two short visits to Saudi Arabia and Egypt. Also returned back with al-Assad were the foreign minister al-Shara and members of the delegation accompanying the President.
