Egypt-Jordan, Politics, 9/18/2001
Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak received King Abdullah II in Sharm El-Sheikh today for talks on the world situation after last Tuesday's terrorist attacks in New York and Washington.
The two leaders are also expected to discuss the developments in the Middle East during their talks.
Abdullah Monday received a telephone call from President Mubarak during which they exchanged views on the latest regional and international developments in the wake of the terrorist attack on the United States.
The Royal Cabinet said the two leaders asserted the importance of continued coordination and consultations on such conditions especially pertaining to developments in the Palestinian territories.
Earlier in the day, Abdullah telephoned Palestinian Leader Yasser Arafat for consultations on the latest regional and international conditions.
The monarch informed Arafat of the contacts he made with US President George W. Bush and a number of European leaders to urge them to endeavor to halt violence in the Palestinian territories.
King Abdullah telephoned Bush Sunday night.
He reiterated Jordan's support for the Americans in their dilemma and asserted the fact that terrorist acts contradict with all heavenly religions.
On the other hand, Sultan Qaboos Bin Said of Oman leaves Sharm El-Sheikh today, winding up a special two-week visit he paid to Egypt, in which he met with president Mubarak three times to review developments of the Middle East peace process.
