Shimon Peres and the meeting with Arafat
Palestine-Israel, Politics, 9/17/2001

The Israeli foreign minister Shimon Peres has admitted the need of convening the meeting with the chairman of the Palestinian Authority, otherwise Israel will be considered the side which is persistent to refuse the meeting.

In an interview with the Israeli Hebrew- language radio on Sunday, Peres indicated that the US is not convinced by what is promoted by the Israeli media on comparing Yasser Arafat with Bin Laden, noting that continuing to refuse this meeting is futile.

Peres said that he has agreed with the Israeli prime minister that the aim of the meeting is to halt the Palestinian Intifada.

On the other hand, the Israeli minister of telecommunication Robbi Revlen has called for not meeting with Arafat and preventing him ( Arafat) from joining the US currently made efforts at the international level to fight terrorism.
