Mubarak discussed with Annan holding international conference for terrorism combat

Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak discussed with UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan means of activating the plan of holding international conference for combatting terrorism. President Mubarak and Annan probed as well the recent incidents in USA.

Middle East News Agency (MENA) said that during a phone call on Wednesday, President Mubarak stressed necessity of activating the initiative submitted before to the United Nations to hold an international conference for combatting terrorism under the UN. MENA added that President Mubarak called many times for holding such a conference.

Meanwhile, Foreign Minister Ahmed Maher in an interview with a US TV station on Wednesday pointed out that President Mubarak cared for holding anti-terrorism conference and it was not taken into consideration at that time.

Maher underlined that Egypt supports the international work against terrorism and this is Egypt's stance now and before.

Moreover, US Secretary of State Colin Powell made telephone calls with Ahmed Maher, Jordanian Foreign Minister and Arab League Chief Amr Moussa.

Meanwhile, Maher stressed that the international coalition to fight terrorism should include Islamic, Arab and Gulf countries, adding that USA seeks the Arab and Islamic countries support.
