Morocco's carrier reinforces safety measures
Morocco, Business, 9/15/2001
The Moroccan carrier, Royal Air Maroc (RAM), announced the reinforcement of safety measures onboard its flights following attacks against targets in the USA earlier this week.
The moves are meant to consolidate the already existing prevention and control arrangements, RAM said in a release made public Friday.
Although RAM is known as a carrier that meticulously respects international safety measures, it has decided to reinforce its system to be in tune with the special safety moves enforced by the US aviation authority, the release said.
The measures will cover boarding and registration procedures, control of access to planes through a systematic checking of passengers' identity as well as luggage control.
Freight and catering will also come under strict control, RAM said, adding that planes will be the object of a close surveillance and verification while on the ground.
The new safety moves are enforced in close cooperation with the Moroccan ports and security authorities, RAM added.
The carrier also said that pending the green light of the US authorities for the resumption of flights towards the USA, RAM flights to New York and Montreal will continue to be suspended. RAM information services will inform passengers on the date of the resumption of the flights.
