Using world's preoccupation in incidents in the US, Sharon government escalates attacks against Palestinians

Using the wold pre-occupation of the attacks launched against the US last Tuesday, the Israeli forces escalated its aggression against the Palestinians by all types of weapons and this resulted in more human and material casualties.

Palestinian sources said that one Palestinian youth was killed and other four wounded by the bullets of the Israeli soldiers at al-Mintar crossing to the east of Gaza, while an Israeli tank opened its fire at the headquarters of Jenin province where sites of the Palestinian security forces are situated and heavy losses were inflicted.

The sources said that Israeli tanks had intensive moves in the surrounding of Jenin where the Israeli army units occupied the buildings and converted them to controlling points and tightened its siege at the Palestinian areas.

While an Israeli tank destroyed one Palestinian house near " Natsareim" settlement in Gaza, the Israeli forces dug trenches in the routes to Jerusalem and arrested three Palestinians from al-Jalazoun camp in Ramullah.

The Israeli defense minister Benjamin Bin Aleazer admitted that his forces assassinated 14 Palestinians in the Palestinian cities of Jenin Qabateyah and Tammoun during two days. Bin Aleazer also threatened to give more freedom to the Israeli army in the operations of bombardment and assassination against the Palestinians if the Palestinian authority will not submit to the Israeli conditions to resume the negotiations..

Meanwhile, an Israeli military spokesman admitted that two soldiers were wounded in a Palestinian attack by bombs at the outskirts of " Ereiz " crossing in Gaza while two Palestinians were wounded by the Israeli fires during the confrontations in al-Beera. The Palestinian Intifada youths fired mortars shells at the Israeli settlements of Ghoushe Katieve, Badonil, Kfar Daroum and Eiloun Moreh.

Meanwhile, the Palestinian Authority stressed that the Israeli forces expanded the scale of its attacks at the Palestinian cities and destroyed more buildings and many Palestinian were killed or wounded as a result.

In a statement the Palestinian Authority stressed its response to all international efforts to implement international legitimacy resolutions and the " Mitchell report." It warned that the Israeli government shows deliberate rejection to these efforts and calls for launching a comprehensive military campaign against the Palestinians.

Member of the Palestinian Legislative Council Hanan Ashrawi stressed the need of putting the Palestinian question on any world program against terrorism:" because we are before people who have been as a whole exposed to the Israeli terrorism." She explained that the anti- terrorism coalition should identify terrorism and discuss means of fighting it as well as fighting solutions to crisis in the world in the framework of the supremacy of the law.

On the Israeli side, the Israeli prime minister Sharon canceled the meeting to be held between his foreign minister Shimon Peres and the chairman of the Palestinian Authority Yasser Arafat. Sharon had earlier approved this meeting.

In Washington, the US President George Bush urged Sharon in a telephone call to halt what he called violence between the Palestinians and the Israelis.
