Egyptian- Libyan initiative on Sudan still the best choice
Sudan, Politics, 9/14/2001

The joint Libyan- Egyptian initiative on finding out a solution to the political crisis in Sudan has entered a new phase after Washington has nominated its envoy in Sudan and its determination to directly join the political settlement file between the government and the opposition. A matter, according to observers which threaten the Arab ( Egyptian- Libyan) initiative, despite the assertion made by the Sudanese foreign minister Mustafa Othman Ismael that the Libyan- Egyptian initiative is the one which is valid and that Washington has not yet proposed certain ideas and " we are waiting for the envoy nominated by US President George Bush to Sudan."

In a statement to the Saudi daily al-Watan issued on Tuesday, Ismael did not hide his fears from the American direct intervention and Washington to make pressures on his country. He renewed his warning that Sudan is vulnerable to partition and the Arab states are demanded to withstand this scheme.
