Egypt condemns terrorism
Egypt, Politics, 9/13/2001
"Egypt condemns terrorist acts and rejects the targeting of civilians be they Americans, Arabs, Palestinians or Israelis," said Foreign Minister Ahmad Maher Wednesday.
In press statements following his meeting with Omani Foreign Minister Youssef Bin Elawi, Maher said that President Hosni Mubarak has long rejected terrorism and called for an international conference for combating terrorism.
Asked about Israeli attempts to use the Tuesday attacks for defaming Muslims and Arabs, the Omani official said that Israeli tries to exploit any circumstances for this particular purpose though outcome of investigation has not been declared yet.
"The Arabs can never carry out such acts," the top Omani diplomat said.
He voiced believe that those who carried the attacks took shelter in the US and has enough latitude and time to do them.
He termed it as impossible the planning of such attacks from inside Arab countries as Arab security authorities would never allow them.
"Egypt and Oman agree on the need for all Arab and Islamic countries to coordinate stances over fighting terrorism," he added.
He said that there is an unanimous stance demanding a fight against terrorism but actions should be more will planned to yield positive outcome.
Moreover Maher also voiced his deep sorrow over the victims of a series of attacks against the US.
Cautioning against random finger-pointing, the official said that findings of investigations into these attacks should not be prejudged.
Maher was speaking during a meeting with members of the Egyptian-British Business Association. He was referring to Israeli allegations that Arab and Muslims groups were involved in the attacks.
During the meeting, Maher reviewed the situation in the Mideast, the peace process stalled over Israeli government's policies and the efforts exerted by Egypt in coordination with the parties concerned to revive negotiations.
