Maghreban road transport commission meets in Rabat
Maghreb, Economics, 9/13/2001
The road transport commission, stemming from the Arab Maghreb Union (UMA) held a meeting in Rabat earlier this week to explore means of promoting road transport in the region.
The commission looked into existing conventions on road transport of passengers and goods, issues related to transit and mutual recognition of driving licenses by the UMA members, a statement by the Rabat-based UMA secretariat general said.
The commission drew the broad lines of a plan of action meant to enhance Maghreban partnership, set up internal regulations and ease procedures for issuing driving licenses and vehicles registration plates.
The UMA, set up in Marrakesh in 1989, musters Algeria, Libya, Mauritania, Morocco and Tunisia.
