Morocco, Local, 9/13/2001
Moroccan film-maker Nabyl Ayouch's "Ali Zawa" gleaned four prizes during the 17th Alexandria International Cinema Festival held recently in Egypt.
Ali Zawa, the only Moroccan movie that participated in the festival official competition, received best-feature film prize and best production prize. It also got the prize of best editing and a mention to the three children, main actors of the movie.
Chairwoman of the jury, Indian artist Jaya Patchan, said during the prize awarding ceremony the jury members were impressed by the style and talent of the three children who are not professional actors.
The movie relates in a highly convincing way the story of a group of kids trying to survive in an uncompromising world, where the kid, Ali Zawa, wields special energy and power. The Movie got so many other awards in other national and international cinema festival.
Some 40 Arab and foreign countries participated in this 17th festival with 70 movies.
