Egypt, History, 9/12/2001
Egyptian Minister of Culture, Farouq Hosni said the restoration of Ibn Toloun mosque would be completed within 12 months at a cost of LE 12 million.
The restoration project aims at returning the mosque to its original condition at the time it was built.
Secretary General of the Supreme Council of Antiquity, Gabllah Ali Gaballah said the area surrounding the mosque would also be renovated.
Ibn Toloun mosque is the third ever built in Egypt after Amr Bin AL As and AL Askar mosques.
Meantime, the supreme council of Antiquity has an integrated project to renovate the Abu Sir area, including the Roman temple that was dedicated to the worship of Isis and Osiris.
A statue of the goddess Isis was excavated in the area, which reflects the great status attributed to the temple at the Roman age.
The project will be completed within two years, and Abu Sir can be added as an international tourism attraction then.
