'Salam' Canal approaches completion
Egypt, Economics, 9/12/2001

Mahmoud Abu Zeid, Egyptian Minister of Irrigation and Water Resources announced that the execution average of the "Salam" canal at north Sinai has reached 96% of the work in the main course of the canal (86 kms) and the infrastructure for the small beneficiaries.

Abu Zeid added that pursuant to the directives of President Hosni Mubarak to give a push to the mega national projects, it was decided to establish a new sector at the north Sinai development agency to offer all services, facilities, and technical consultations to all investors who have pieces of land in the projects, beside the small beneficiaries and youth graduates.

Abu Zeid further said that there is a daily follow-up and assessment from President Mubarak to the work in the national projects, and such follow-up has a basic and major role in increasing the average of execution.

These remarks were given during the minister's tour in "Salam" canal area, where he met with the chairmen of the construction companies, and discussed with them the timetables and execution averages.
