On the Baath party elections in Syria

Well-informed sources in Damascus said that the inclination of the Baath party to the election mechanism instead of appointing will result in applying the mechanism of voting in reaching the regional congress from which the Baath party regional leadership will stem after " direct appointment of persons used to be the main means to reach the Baath party regional congress."

The sources added that, according to its own set rules, the conference will be convened by the end of the last phase of the party elections in 2002.

These sources noted that President Bashar al-Assad who is in charge of the regional secretary for the Baath Party since his election in the 9th regional Baath party congress in the year 2000 has received the secretaries of the Baath party branches in all Syrian provinces, noting that the first phase of the new Baath Party elections resulted in changing 70% of its leaderships by new leaderships. And this resulted in a change in the method of work activity of the Baath Party in Syria. A matter by its turn, will give a push forward to other parties rallied under the leadership of the National Progressive Front to move for self- improvement.
