Two co-operation agreements between Syria, Turkey in the area of security, illegal migration

The Syrian minister of the Interior and his Turkish counterpart Rasheed Kazem Yjalaan on Monday and in the presence of members of the two delegations signed a security cooperation agreement between the two ministries provides for guaranteeing cooperation in the field of fighting the crime and criminals, organized crime and terrorism, on the ground of the two countries' care to develop good neighborly relations and from the desire to deepen and strengthen ties of friendship built on principles of equality and common interests and in line with national legislation and international agreements.

The agreement also states the need to exchanging information between the two sides in the field of crimes committed by the citizens of the two countries against the territories of the other. The two sides will also take necessary measures pertain to protecting the security of land, sea and air routes and the railways between the two countries.

In the area of fighting organized crime, the agreement states the need that the two sides to take necessary measures on their borders to prevent smuggling of drugs and chemical essence from one country to the other and to co-operate on disclosing and revealing ways used by smugglers as well as to exchange information about smugglers and their activities.

As for fighting terrorism, the two countries stressed the two sides to take effective measures to prevent terrorism acts directed against the security of the other and its citizens, according to the provisions of the protocol of cooperation in the security affairs signed in Damascus in 1987 by the two countries s prime ministers.

The two ministers also signed an agreement on cooperation of returning back illegal emigrants on the ground of the two countries' determination to cooperate to preserve security on their joint borders and preventing illegal moves of persons between their two countries.
