Hizbullah and operations against Israel

The Jordanian weekly al-Hadath said in an analysis issued in its recent issue on Monday that more than one Arab and Western security department in Lebanon conveyed to Israel information saying that the Hizbullah is intending to carry out a huge operation or a series of operations against Israel in the nearby time.

The paper added, according to western diplomatic sources that these operation might take place during the visit of the chairman of the Palestinian Authority Yasser Arafat to Damascus on September 12 and 13 if the visit will take place or after the end of the talks between President al-Assad with Arafat.

The sources explained that remarkable world sides collected information on plans by the Hizbullah to implement various types of operations and attacks against Israel, in retaliation to the increasing Israeli military and security escalation against the Palestinian and this will be conducted within several possibilities: The first is that the Hizbullah fighters will carry out a huge suicide operation against an Israeli military position or an Israeli patrol in the Shebaa farms or another place in north Israel.

Secondly, Hizbullah and Palestinian fighters to carry out a joint suicide operation in the depth of the Palestinian territories, starting from Lebanon.

Thirdly, Simultaneously the Hizbullah party to carry out a series of attacks against the Israeli forces and, fourthly, Hizbullah fighters to kidnap Israeli military men and civilians. The sources added that Israel was informed about these information, and by its turn conveyed them to the administration of the US President George Bush and the European and international sides including the UN secretary general.

The said sources added that as a result the US administration made three moves: The first asking the government of Sharon not to embark on these information as a base to carry out military operation against Lebanon or Syria because that will lead for opening a vast Lebanese front before various suicide and military operations against Israel; Secondly, the US administration held contacts to this effect with high ranking Syrian officials and Thirdly The US secretary of state telephoned twice the UN chief Kofi Annan and asked him for an active UNIFIL ( UN Interim Forces in South Lebanon) in preventing the Hizbullah party and the Palestinian fighters from carrying out operations against Israel.
