Initiative on weapons of mass destruction
Iran-Regional, Politics, 9/11/2001

Iranian Foreign Minister Kamal Kharazi Monday urged adopting the call launched annually by Egypt and Iran at the UN General Assembly on freeing the Mideast region from weapons of mass destruction.

At a joint press conference with Belgian Deputy Premier and Foreign Minister Louis Michel and EU Foreign and Security Chief Javier Solana, Kharazi said Iran opposes the spread of weapons of mass destruction though it faces threats from the neighbours in the West which possess such weapons.

Asked on the Mideast issue, Kharazi said this issue is complicated as a result of the Israeli practices in the occupied territories.

The only solution to the current deteriorating situation is to put an end to the Israeli attacks as well as the issue of refugees which the world seems to forget despite its importance, Kharazi added.
