Archaeological find in Sakkara
Egypt, History, 9/10/2001
Minister of Culture, Farouq Hosni said a Japanese excavation mission has unearthed a new tomb in Sakkara that dates back to late pharaonic age of Dynasty 26.
The name of king Cheops, one of the most prominent pharaohs and the builder of the Great Pyramid in Giza, was engraved on the pedestal of a statue that resembles the Sphinx.
Secretary General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities, Gaballah Ali Gabalah said that the find proves the presence of priests in Giza in 500 B.C. who revived King Cheops' cult.
Meantime, Director of Giza Monuments Department, Zahi Hawas leaves for a number of European cities.
Hawas will speak on Egyptian civilization and disclose a number of archaeological finds.
