Egypt calls for backing UN development activities

Meeting of the executive council of the UN Development Programme (UNDP) dedicated to discuss its budget and assess its financial status is scheduled to start Monday at the UN headquarters in New York.
Ambassador in the UN Ahmed Abul Gheit said that the UNDP executive council meetings are of special importance especially, in this period in the light of international variables of the international economic atmosphere.
He added that the role of the UN and its specialized agencies are important and vital for the developing countries.
Egypt has been elected to be one of the countries representing Africa in the UNDP executive council for three years as of 2000.
Egypt, ever since has been playing an active role in the UNDP meetings to secure the development countries' interests.
