An Iranian parliamentary delegation in the UAE
United Arab Emirates-Iran, Politics, 9/10/2001

The speaker of the federal national council in the United Arab Emirates UAE Muhammad Khaleifah al-Habtour has met with an Iranian parliamentary delegation currently visiting the United Arab Emirates UAE. This meeting which is considered the first parliamentary bilateral meeting between the two countries, reflects the state of detente in the relations between the two countries.

The question of the three UAE islands was among the issues discussed by al-Habtour with the Iranian delegation which included Ala Eddine Ameer Wajri, Jawad Itaat and Sayed Fadel Mahajarati.

During the meeting, the Iranian side concentrated on the importance of finding out a peaceful solution for this issue.

Al-Habtour noted that UAE care, in its foreign policy, to pursue the principles of peace and diplomacy and good neighborhood, adding that this has been ever stressed by the UAE foreign minister Sheikh Hamdan Bin Zayed al-Nahyan during his recent visit to Iran.

Al-Habtour also underlined the role that can be played by parliamentarians to finding out a solution to this matter by either resorting to the table of negotiations to find out an amicable solution for the two sides or to the International court of Justice, investing thereby the positive atmosphere prevailing Iranian - Gulf relations in particular and Iranian- Arab relations in general.
