Nine Israelis were killed, 40 wounded in Palestinian 'suicide' operations
Palestine-Israel, Politics, 9/10/2001

In retaliation to the continued Israeli operations against the Palestinians, the Palestinian Intifada youths on Sunday carried out a series of suicide acts that resulted in killing or wounding tens of the Israelis.

Meantime, the Israeli forces using Apache planes missiles bombarded the cities of Areiha, Ramullah, Nablus, and Jenin and destroyed several houses and headquarters for the Palestinian Authority.

The Palestinian youth Yasser al-Khatib carried out a suicide operation at a train station at " Naharia" settlement to the north of Palestine and this resulted in killing 6 Israeli military men and wounding more other 40.

Sources at the Israeli police said that another explosive was found at the same train station but did not explode, noting the vast campaign of arrest carried out in al-Jalil ( the Galilee) and al-Karmel areas.

The sources added that the executor of the operation is an Arab from the territories of 1948 and he is member of the Palestinian national resistance movement ( Hamas).

The sources explained that a booby trapped car went off near a coach at Beit Eil crossroad to the east of Nathania, resulted in killing one Israeli and wounding three and that another explosion took place just few seconds later from the first explosion but gave no details.

In another operation, two Israelis were killed and many other wounded after Palestinians opened fire at an Israeli coach at Jafatlak cross- road in the Jordan valley, while the Palestinian Intifada youths threw tens of bombs at Israeli positions near Rafah.

One Palestinian was killed ( Israel still hold his body) in the clashes that took place on Sunday near Beit Hanoun to the north of Gaza.

The Islamic Jihad movement claimed responsibility for attacking the Israeli coach to the north of Areiha and said in a statement that this operation is a retaliation to the " Israeli crimes against the Palestinian people."

" Hamas" stressed that the resistance operation will continue and increase until occupation will be eliminated. The movement added that " Naharia" operation is a natural answer to the aggressive policy of the " government of terrorist Sharon." Meanwhile, the Israeli Apache planes missiles bombarded a center for the Palestinian police in Qabatyah to the south of Jenin and also a huge base for the Palestinian authority in Arieha and a position in Nablus, three positions in Ramullah and also destroyed several Palestinian houses after these missiles went off.

The Israeli forces also arrested the Palestinian minister in charge of the file of Jerusalem in the Palestinian authority Zeyad Abu Zeyad at his residence in Jerusalem.

The Israeli forces also summoned more troops along the contact lines with the Palestinian territories supervised by the Palestinian Authority, while the Israeli ministerial team chaired by Sharon ratified a plan to tighten the separation line between the West Bank and the territories of 1948.

The Israeli radio said that the isolation plan covered ceasing fire area of 1967 as well as vast area from the surrounding of Jerusalem, adjoining the Jordan valley and the area extending between " Ma'ale Adomim" until " Araad" settlement to the south of the West Bank.

The radio added that from now on these areas will be considered closed military zones, noting that the Israeli foreign minister Shimon Peres called for the prompt implementation of the isolation plan so as to prevent the Palestinian from moving inside these area. Peres also voiced backing to Sharon's plan provides for preventing the Palestinians from getting into the territories of 1948.

The spokesman for Sharon Ranaan Giesen said that Israel will draw the suitable decisions in challenge of the chairman of the Palestinian Authority Yasser Arafat, who urged the launching of operations against Israel.

The Israeli official in charge of security for the Jordan Valley settlement Moshe Seirve admitted that most of the settlers in these settlements stressed their readiness to evacuate them and stay in houses in the territories of 1948 ( inside Israel).

Seirve also admitted the failure of all security measures taken to protect these settlement. He said that the settlers are the victims of the of the failed policies carried out by Sharon government.

For its part, the Palestinian authority denounced holding the Palestinian authority responsible by the Israeli officials for the Naharia operation. The secretary of the Palestinian Authority Presidium al-Tayeb Abdul Rahim said that: " we immediately call for the return back for the table of negotiations and implementation of signed agreement in order to halt clashes and the return back of stability to the Palestinian territories."

Abdul Rahim added that the Palestinian authority urges Israel to halt its aggressions against the unarmed Palestinians and ending the military siege policy.
