Ethiopia-Eritrea, Politics, 9/8/2001

The UN secretary general Kofi Annan has recommended the UN Security Council to extend the UN mission in charge of supervising the implementation of the cease- fire agreements signed between Ethiopia and Eritrea for 6 additional months.

News reports quoted Annan as saying in a report to the UN Security Council that the confrontations between the two countries armies had stopped and they have started to sack soldiers of their two armies, noting " however, there are still important issue that are still in need to be settled."

The UN Security Council will be meeting on Monday with the representatives of 45 states delegated soldiers of 4200 troopers to supervise the implementation of the cease- fire agreement between the two countries. This cease- fire agreement expires on September 14, next year.
