Arresting Riad Seif is based on legal grounds

The first investigation judge in Damascus on Thursday issued a memorandum of arrest against member of the Syrian parliament Riad Seif because of the accusations addressed to him in committing crimes that violate the law. This was after completing investigations with him.

Permission was given of legalized reserved arrest by the speaker of the Syrian parliament on September 6 2001.

To this effect, the political editor of the Syrian daily Tishreeb commented on this matter saying:" Some of those who seek fame and stardom, those who are obsessed by statements and false statements required by regional and world circles of " suspicious inclination, try to forget that freedom means rights and duties, simultaneously and that the supremacy of the law is a basic principle that all have to be subjected to including those who meet under slogans, titles, and names that our people know its reality and motives behind them as well as its near and far objectives."

He added:" some of those people in the name of laws, the right to self-expression also keep a blind eye to the fact that the constitution when it guarantees to them the right to contribute to the social, economic and political as well as cultural life, stipulated that this to be " organized by the law," SANA reported.
