The missile shield on the agenda of Arab foreign ministers meeting
Regional-USA, Politics, 9/6/2001

The US administration has expressed great interest in the work paper to be debated by the secretary general of the Arab league AL Amr Moussa to the meetings of the Arab foreign ministers due to be held in Cairo on next Sunday and Monday on the AL vision towards the US "Missile shield" project and Washington's attempt to promote an advanced defense network in the Middle east.

American diplomats said that their country's government is very interested to know closely the vision that Moussa will display during the Arab ministerial meeting next week.

They expressed Washington dissatisfaction over listing this item at the work agenda of the meeting of the Arab foreign ministers.

This is, however, the first time since its establishment in 1945 that the Arab league starts to discuss a file relates closely to the American interests especially the military ones in the Middle East region.

Las week Moussa announced his determination to debate the file of the US " Missile shield" to the Arab foreign ministers due to its direct impact on the Arab national security under the strategic alliance between the US and Israel.

Despite the fact that Moussa did not disclose the extent of his opposition to the US military policies in the region, yet, well-informed sources at the Arab League said that Moussa will brief the Arab foreign ministers during next week's meeting with dangers inflicted on the Arab regional system as a result of promoting such an American "Missile shield " project.
