The Italian dailies on Monday quoted the Italian foreign minister Renato Rojeiro as saying in conclusion of a meeting in Tripoli he held with the Libyan President Muammar al-Qaddafi that lasted for more than two hours that Libya desires to normalize relations with the USA.
The Italian foreign minister said that the Italian government will surely support the new Libyan openness towards the US, Britain and the European Union.
According to the Italian daily Dela Serra al-Qaddafi handed the Italian minister a message addressed to the US President George Bush but gave no more details.
Rojeiro added that he had felt a strong will in al-Qaddafi to put an end to the disputes with the US and to normalize relations with this country. He added:" we have also discussed in length the normalization of relations with the European Union and al-Qaddafi expressed hope to promptly visit Brussels."
Meantime, the Italian daily " La Stampia " said that the Libya desire to open to the US will not be made unless the two countries co-operate on equal footing as requested by Tripoli.
