Iraq refuses any new system for UN sanctions
Iraq, Politics, 9/4/2001

The Iraqi foreign minister Naji Sabri on Monday stressed his country's rejection to any new system of sanctions to be imposed on it and its resistance to any new attempt to be made by the US to adopt such a resolution at the UN security council.

In a statement, Sabri said that Iraq is ready for all possibilities, stressing that Iraq is progressing forward a step everyday in its political and economic performance and in its Arab, regional and international relations. He indicated that the main factor to foil the US- American project is the steadfast Iraqi position which was greatly reflected on the Russian position to counter the project.

Russia had threatened to use the veto at the UN Security Council in order to prevent imposing new system of sanctions on Iraq, proposed by the US and Britain.
