Hatshepsut temple to reopen next October
Egypt, History, 9/3/2001
Egyptian Minister of Culture Farouk Hosni will reopen next October Hatshepsut temple after restoring it.
It took 40 years to restore the temple and save its engravings.
Secretary General of Higher Council for Antiquities Gaballah Ali Gaballah said that the temple has been under restoration since 1960 by the Egyptian-Polish mission.
The restoration aimed at uncovering other engravings for Queen Hatshepsut which was removed by King Thotmas III who believed that Hatshepsut usurped his reign and that women should not rule countries.
Therefore he removed the engravings to conceal her name and block it from being remembered anymore in history records.
Meanwhile, discovered engravings points out to Hatshepsut's journey to land of Punt where she brought back soft and hard wood needed for building a stronger navy for Egypt.
