Maher confers in Durban with counterparts
Egypt-Iran, Politics, 9/3/2001

Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmed Maher held a series of meetings on the fringe of the Third World Conference against Racism and Racial Discrimination currently held in Durban, South African. He met for the first time with his Iranian counterpart Kamal Kharrazi.

During the meeting, the two sides exchanged viewpoints as regards the issues discussed at the conference, the importance of coordinating stances of the Islamic countries. The two ministers also reviewed as well a bilateral relations and means of boosting them in the various fields.

They probed the latest developments in the Mideast region since the outbreak of the Palestinian Intifada.

Maher, as well met with Kuwaiti Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Mohammed Sabah El-Salem, head of the Kuwaiti delegation to the WCAR, and they exchanged viewpoints on various issues.

There was also a meeting with the French State Minister for Francophonie affairs Charles Joslin. The two ministers probed the issues tabled on the final communique of the conference and the working program for combating racism.

Maher tackled the issue of re-electing Secretary General o the Francophonie Organization Boutros Ghali for a second term.
