Mubarak in Damascus for talks with Assad

Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak arrived today in Damascus for talks with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad on the situation in the Middle East, means of saving Mideast peace process and the current diplomatic contacts aimed at containing the escalation of atrocities in the Palestinian territories.
President Mubarak had earlier announced his plans to intensify Arab and international contacts and visits in the framework of his efforts which are aimed at easing the sufferings of the Palestinian people and saving the peace process.
President Mubarak had a telephone conversation with the Syrian President last Friday in the context of his intensive efforts for containing the deteriorating situation in the occupied Palestinian lands and coordinating efforts for avoiding further deterioration in the region.
In this context, President Mubarak had a telephone conversation with Prince Abdullah Bin Abdul Aziz, the Saudi Crown Prince, and met with King Abdullah II of Jordan in Alexandria on Saturday.
