Solana starts a tour on the ME region

The higher official for the foreign policy at the European Union Javier Solana arrived in Jerusalem on Sunday starting his tour on the region which will lead him later to the Palestinian territories, Jordan and Egypt.

The Israeli radio said that Solana will discuss during his visit to Israel with the Israeli prime minister Ariel Sharon and the foreign minister Shimon Peres the situation in the region and means of "easing down conditions" and also resuming the negotiations with the Palestinians.

For is part, the German daily Der Speigel said in its Sunday's issue that Solana will debate a proposal to Sharon states to evacuate the Israeli settlements in the Palestinian territories and to transport their settlers into the inside the green line, at the financial support of the European Union.
