China looking forward to Mubarak's visit
Egypt-China, Politics, 9/1/2001

Chinese Foreign Minister Tang Jiaxuan asserted that China was looking forwards to Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak's prospective visit.

During a meeting Friday with Egyptian Ambassador No'man Goma marking the end of his tenure, Tang said President Jiang Zemin is welcoming the visit of President Mubarak in light of his wisdom and instrumental role in bringing about peace to the Middle East.

The top diplomat also lauded the distinguished relations binding both China and Egypt in the trade and economic domains.

He referred, in this regard, to the signing of a statement on the establishment of a strategic partnership between both countries during President Mubarak's visit to China in April 1999, giving further momentum to bilateral ties.

Tang also cited President Jiang's visit to Egypt last year and the decision taken by the Chinese government to list Egypt as one of the main tourist destinations for Chinese tourists.

Meanwhile, China's new ambassador to Egypt Liu Xiao Ming left Beijing Friday en route to Cairo. Prior to his departure, Liu met representatives of the Chinese side in the Egyptian-Chinese Investments and Trade Company.

Before his nomination as ambassador to Egypt Liu served as deputy chairman of the Chinese diplomatic mission in Washington.
