Active Arab participation at the 48th DIF

The 48th Damascus International Fair (DIF) which will continue until September 7th is attended by 30 countries and 127 Arab and foreign companies.
The Lebanese minister of the economy and trade Basel Fleihan, leading a large delegation representing both the Lebanese private and public sectors, took part in the inauguration ceremony of the Fair in which 30 Lebanese companies are participating.
Fleihan said that opening the markets between Syria and Lebanon plays a key role to boosting the two countries' economies. He considered that there is economic integration between the two countries despite the administrative obstacles impeding the implementation progress.
The chairman of the federation of the Lebanese chambers Adnan Qassar noted the good development in the relations with Syria especially in the openness towards the Lebanese banking sector.
Among the numerous exhibits at the Omani Pavilion at the 48th DIF is the Oman National Dairy products, which was established in 1976 as a joint stock company. The company is led by a visionary board of Directors comprising of leading industrialists and businessmen, who with their ideals and foresight have driven ONDP as one of the most progressive companies in the Middle East today.
ONDP was awarded the ISO 9002 accreditation in 1997, becoming the first dairy products company of its kind in the region.
Moreover the company is available in over 25 countries around the globe, with the brand leader in Oman, One of the largest distribution infrastructures in Oman for chilled, frozen and dry food products, direct coverage of over 5000 retail stores in Oman.
The company is a co-packers for major international and regional brands and is approved suppliers to major Airlines and Institutions.
Another Omani company at the 48th DIF is Ali Abdul Karim Tradinc Co. AATCO which was established in 1993, has become well known for its Baraka, Khabura and Al-Bustan brands of tomato ketchup, mayonnaise, hot sauce, vinegar, exotic sauces & dressings and processed foods. The company is presently a major condiments supplier to some of the most popular transitional fast food chains in the Middle East region and in the other markets in Asia and Africa.
At the Omani pavilion of the 48th DIF, Dr. Haritha Salim al-Busaidy, specialized Committees department at the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry noted the activities conducted by the chamber, and in particular noted an important event which is the 6th Muscat International Fair to be run by the Chamber. She said that the MIF will be held on October 22- 26, 2001 at the Oman International Exhibition Center. She said that the MIF 2001 is a highly influential business- to business, manufacturing and service industry exhibition, organized in partnership with the Oman Center for Investment Promotion and Export Development and the Public Establishment for Industrial Estates. Besides, since 1986, MIF has provided government officials and the Gulf region's business leaders with an excellent opportunity to network and interact.
At the Saudi pavilion of the 48th DIF, sales agent at the Saudi Red Bricks Company said that the Saudi Red Bricks Company is one of the world's major producers of Red Bricks. He said that the company is owned by Sheikh Ahmad Abdullah al-Amoudi and Saleh Abdullah who are pioneers in the Red Bricks production in Saudi Arabia. He added that al-Amoudi's involvement with red bricks started 45 years ago. He explained that this factory, located in Bahrah near Jeddah city, uses good quality clay from the Wadi Fathima mines as raw material for their production. The stiff extrusion process ( using low water content in the Clay before extrusion); and the American technology in use, produces excellent quality red bricks.
He continued:" We have a sales network spread over the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia supported by a fleet of more than 200 distribution vehicles and a highly experienced sales team.
Another remarkable product at the Saudi pavilion is the al-Jazira Plastic Factory which was established in 1988. It is considered to be one of the biggest factories in Saudi Arabia. It specializes in Polypropylene Woven bags with a capital of 25 million Saudi Riyal.
With regards to the increasing orders from the company's customers, the company has expanded the factory capacity with the new latest technology.
