Palestinian resistance will not stop as occupation continues
Regional-Palestine, Politics, 8/30/2001
Arab League Secretary-General Amr Moussa said on Wednesday that the Palestinian Intifada would not stop as long as there was Israeli occupation.
He criticized Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon's call for halting the Palestinian uprising before deciding on the start of negotiations.
It is illogical to call for halting the Intifada under military occupation by a foreign country, added Moussa.
The Arab League chief said after the preparatory meeting of AL Chief delegates that cutting down the agenda of the Arab League Council which will meet in September at the level of Foreign Ministers would not be at the expense of other issues.
On the Arab League budget, Moussa denied there were any reservations by the Arab countries on the budget of the Arab League that amounted to dlrs 27 million.
Concerning the Iragi state of affairs, Moussa said the Arab stance remained unchanged regarding the importance of halting measures that would affect Iraq's people and security, adding that the Arab stance was also supportive of maintaining Kuwait's security.
On the racism conference which will open in Durban, South Africa, on Friday, Moussa, describing the conference as important, said, however, that it should not proceed along the same line of double standards, as manifested by the new world order.
"We are going to South Africa with full objectivity to render the conference a success," said Moussa, adding that the conference was also important for those wanting to eliminate racial discrimination.
