Moroccan parties denounce murder of PFLP leader
Morocco-Palestine, Politics, 8/29/2001
Two Moroccan political parties have strongly denounced the assassination Monday of the secretary general of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP), Abu Ali Mustapha, by Israeli death squads.
The Socialist Union of Popular Forces (USFP of Prime Minister Abderrahmane Youssoufi) issued a statement calling the world conscience to put an end to the extermination war waged against the Palestinian people.
The USFP said Sharon and his gang would have never been able to practice this liquidation policy of a whole people, had it not been for the inability and incapacity of the UN Security Council to see to the implementation of international legality and to intervene to put an end to these practices. The USFP called the international community to shoulder its responsibility in this critical phase of the History of humankind, and said Sharon, who is acting as Nazis did, is to be held fully responsible of the flaring up.
In a major escalation of the conflict in the Palestinian territories occupied by Israel, Israeli death squads assassinated Monday the senior Palestinian political leader at his office in a residential neighborhood of Ramallah.
Israeli helicopter gunships fired two missiles at Mustafa Al-Zibri as he sat working at his desk. Three other persons were injured in the attack.
The USFP also called Arab and Islamic countries to adopt a firm stand while fostering the international community's awareness to the seriousness of the circumstances and to extend the necessary backing to the Palestinian people's struggle.
The Istiqlal Party also decried the murder of the Palestinian leader and said this criminal act shall not weaken the Palestinians' resolve to defend their legitimate rights to statehood.
This came in a message of condolences that the Istiqlal Party Secretary General, Abbas El Fassi, sent to Palestinian President Yasser Arafat.
El Fassi described the assassination as an odious crime and renewed his party's solidarity and backing to the Palestinian people, hailing their courage and determination and paying tribute to the martyrs of the Intifada.
Morocco had also condemned the Palestinian leader's assassination, considering this criminal act as a new escalation of the Israeli aggressions against the unarmed Palestinian people.
Israel's plan to kill Palestinian leaders will inevitably plunge the region in a spiral of violence and counter-violence and will not serve peace, Moroccan official circles said, calling for an immediate action to contain the situation.
The Moroccan Association for Support to the Struggle of the Palestinian people equally denounced the murder terming the assassination as "a perilous turning point" and an escalation of the crimes and aggressions perpetrated by the criminal Sharon who is using all sorts of destruction arms with the full backing of the American administration.
Abu Ali Mustafa is the most prominent Palestinian political leader to be assassinated by Israel for over 10 years. He took over the leadership of the PFLP in April 2000 after its founder, George Habash, retired. Al-Zibri is survived by three daughters and two sons.
