Al-Assad, Chirac express joint concern over Israel's brutality
Syria-France, Politics, 8/29/2001

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad on Tuesday evening received a telephone call from French President Jacques Chirac during which the French President expressed satisfaction over the bilateral relations between the two countries. He indicated the successful visit the President recently made to France and the signed agreements during that visit.

President Chirac expressed his great concern and pessimism over events taking place in the occupied Palestinian territories.

President al-Assad thanked President Chirac for his call and noted that he shares with President Chirac his concern. Al-Assad called for more an effective role by the European Union especially France over what Israel commits of brutal acts against the Palestinian people and their leading figures.
