Israeli President supports, media criticizes the assassination of Abu Ali Mustafa

The Israeli President Moshe Katsav has expressed his total support for the assassination of the secretary general of the people's front for the liberation of Palestine Abu Ali Mustafa.
In an interview with the Hebrew- language Israeli radio, Katsav said the assassination of Abu Ali Mustafa is a step into the right track to what he has called fighting the " Palestinian violence." He added that Israel does not give an ear to the criticism addressed to it because of assassinating Mustafa.
He urged both the Israeli army and the settlers to continue the operations of repressing the Palestinians and expressed his total support to the government of Ariel Sharon.
Meantime, the Israeli dailies issued on Tuesday criticized the assassination of Abu Ali Mustafa on Monday not for moral intention, but for what consequences his assassination will reflect against Israel.
The Israeli daily Haartez said that Mustafa was a remarkable figure in the Palestinian national movement and that his assassination shows the prevailing unrest at the highest Israeli levels on ways of halting " blood- shed."
The paper continued that this assassination operation is an evidence of the failure of all attempts made by the Israeli prime minister Ariel Sharon to eliminate the Intifada, and this can be certified that these acts of assassination against the Palestinians had a negative impact that pushed them to strengthen their national unity.
For its part, the Israeli daily Yadhout Ahronot questioned on whether the assassination of Abu Ali Mustafa was a clever decision, while the Israeli daily Maareve said that Israel by this act, was only able, in particular, making the Palestinians unifying their ranks in their determination to revenge his assassination.
