OIC Condemns Assassination of FPLP Leader
Regional-Israel, Politics, 8/28/2001

The Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) has "strongly condemned the odious assassination of martyr Abu Ali Mustapha Zibri," leader of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (FPLP) and called the international community "to force Israel stop its crimes against the Palestinian people."

The OIC secretary general, Abdelouahed Belkziz, strongly condemned, in a statement, the odious assassination ordered by the Israeli government and said by perpetrating this crime, the Israeli government has buried all regional and international efforts made to stop the Israeli aggression and save the peace process.

This crime is a new step towards escalation and will plunge the region in a spiral of slaughter and destruction, Belkziz said, adding that the assassination of Abu Ali Mustapha, "one of the symbols of patriotic action and one of the famous political leaders of the Palestinian people, is added to the crimes against humankind committed by the Israeli government."

The OIC chief, who voiced condolences to the Palestinian leaders and people for this big loss, said he was confident that the Palestinian people, who are heroically carrying on their liberation struggle, will finally win over the forces of aggression and oppression and will put an end to Israeli occupation to fulfil their aspirations to freedom and independence.

The OIC secretary general called the international community to shoulder its responsibility and take immediate and efficient action to force the Israeli government end its aggressions and crimes against the Palestinian people and stressed the need to ensure international protection to the Palestinian people.

He also called the international community to compel the Israeli government implement the relevant international resolutions on Palestine, Al-Quds (Jerusalem) and the Israeli-Arab conflict in a bid to restore stability and a fair peace in this important part of the world.

The assassination Monday of Abu Ali was condemned by Arab states and by peace-loving countries and forces worldwide as a very serious act likely to plunge the region in more violence.

The martyr's funerals this Tuesday in Ramallah in the West bank were attended by about 50,000 Palestinians, according to estimates and the Palestinian authority decreed a three-day morning in all Palestinian territories.

Abu Ali was killed Monday in an Israeli missile attack while he was in his office, located at only some 200 meters from the headquarters of President Yasser Arafat.
