Regional, Politics, 8/27/2001

The Arab League standing committee of financial and administrative affairs started the proceedings of its 60th session here on Sunday.

The four-day session looks into the financial situation of the Arab League, its budget as well as the non-payment by some members of their subscriptions.

The committee will draft a report that will be submitted to the coming meeting of the League council, to be held at the level of foreign ministers by mid-September in Cairo.

In an opening speech, assistant secretary general in charge of financial and administrative affairs, Ali Abdelkarim, called member states to pay their subscriptions to enable the League carry out its programs.

The annual budget of the League reaches $ 27.5 million.

The Moroccan delegation to the meeting is led by a senior official from the Arab and Islamic affairs department at the ministry of cooperation and foreign affairs.
