Durban Conference to discuss racism

The UN anti-racism conference, to start on Tuesday in Durban, will look into a document covering a number of African issues including racial discrimination, globalisation, slavery, immigration, aids, refugees, education and communication means.

The document is presented by the non-governmental African organizations.

The document reviews the link between colonialism and racism, effect of globalisation on marginalizing the role of woman and child, the discrimination between man and woman in job opportunity and the use of Internet in slavery trade.

A Palestinian official Sunday hailed President Hosni Mubarak 's ongoing efforts to support the defenseless Palestinian people and halt the daily Israeli attacks against them.

Tayssir Khalid, a member of the PLO executive committee, called on the world community during an interview with Cairo radio to shoulder its responsibilities and pressure Israel to implement the UN resolutions.

He underscored the importance of Arab coordination during an anti-racism conference, to open on August 31 in Durban, south Africa, to expose Israeli practices in the occupied Palestinian lands.

Palestinian official also hailed President Hosni Mubarak's ongoing efforts to support the defenseless Palestinian people and halt the daily Israeli attacks against them.

This is true, khaled said when asked about statements made by south African Foreign Minister that Israeli practices in the occupied lands were similar to the now-defunct apartheid policies in south Africa.
