Mubarak to hold an Arab, European tour in September
Egypt-Regional, Politics, 8/27/2001

President Hosni Mubarak of Egypt starts in the first week of September an Arab and European tour which he will start in Syria and then Saudi Arabia before he will head for Europe to visit several states there and the Egyptian President will conclude his tour which will last for two weeks in Morocco. This tour falls in the course of the political and diplomatic contacts Egypt will be making with several Arab states on the Palestinian track.

News reports said that during his meeting with high ranking officials in the Arab states he will visit, Mubarak will discuss means of coordinating Arab positions and the Arab move plan in the international circles, which will also include the Palestinian demands to deploy UN observers in the Palestinian territories and to urge the Western states to interfere and pressure Israel to halt the policy of violence and assassination carried out by Israel against Palestinian activists.

Well-informed sources said that during his talks in Syria, and Saudi Arabia President Mubarak will discuss means of developing bilateral relations between Egypt and each of Syria and Saudi Arabia as well as Morocco.

It was, however, scheduled that Mubarak's tour would have started this week ( August) after which he will return back to Egypt and then to start his European tour. But the development of events in the Middle East and Arab meetings took place in Cairo recently led to postponing Mubarak's Arab tour and to merge the two tours altogether.
