Some 5% of the Sudanese have AIDS

The chairperson of the African women society for fighting AIDS Dr. Fathiyah Abd al-Mahmoud has warned against the danger of the spread of AIDS, stressed that some 5% of the Sudanese have AIDS in comparison with 7% in Uganda.
In a symposium held at the Sudanese foreign ministry Dr Fathiyah urged the Sudanese President Omar Hassan al-Bashir to talks to the Sudanese people through the media channels and warn them against the disease and its impact on destroying the national economy. She added that percentage of AIDS cases have been increasing daily without accelerated attempts by ministries and establishments to contain this disease.
Nevertheless, one of the specialized doctors at the Sudanese ministry of health Dr. Muhammad Awad said that number of persons affected with AIDS in Sudan reached according to statistics reached 6450 cases and that these cases concentrate in the southern provinces, al-Khartoum and Darfour.
However, Dr. Sayed Qutb explained that outdated transitions in Sudan do not help in knowing the number of those affected by AIDS because of the lack of social awareness.
