Foreign Affairs Council urges monitoring human rights in Palestine
Egypt-Palestine, Politics, 8/25/2001

The Egyptian Council for Foreign Affairs Thursday called for setting up an international mechanism for monitoring human rights in the occupied Arab territories in light of Israel's brutal oppressive acts which violate international laws.

A press release by the council in this respect said that the Arab countries should contact human rights groups all over the world especially in Europe and the United States to give a full picture of Israel's human rights violations with data, photos and reports by news agencies and satellite channels.

The Council called for a similar Arab move to pressurize the countries that import commodities manufactured in Israeli settlements in the West Bank, which is an occupied land.

The council's call includes cancellation of trade privileges offered to Israel by some countries as long as it does not respect human rights in the Palestinian territories.
