Trial of Tawfiq al-Hindi
Lebanon-Syria, Politics, 8/25/2001

The Paris weekly " al-Muharrir news" ( editor's news) said in its Friday's recent issue that the Syrian authorities is discussing the question of Tawfiq al-Hindi, the spokesman for the dissolved " Lebanese forces" who has been arrested under the charges of dealing and contacting with Israel, in order to bring him back and try him because he is originally Syrian.

The weekly added that several " nationalist Syrian lawyers" are studying if it is Syria's right to have al-Hindi back through the Attorney general right against al-Hindi before the Syrian courts and to asking the Syrian authorities to bring him before the state security or the military courts.

He weekly quoted a well-informed Syrian source as saying that he rules out discussions in this matter before investigations will be completed. The Syrian source noted that the land of the crime is Lebanon and Syria fully trusts the Lebanese security and judicial establishments.
